ADVANCED VOCAL TECHNIQUES
Advanced Vocal Techniques is an extra, 0-hour (before school) class in the vocal music department and is open to students in grades 9-12. Students enrolled in this class work to prepare music for specific state music activities such as the audition for the Iowa All-State Chrous and the IHSMA Solo/Ensemble Festival. AVT is designed as a high level class to offer instruction to students seeking challenging opportunities to grow as a singer and as a musician. This is a graded class.
Women's Chorale is a developmental women's ensemble open to any female students in grades 9-12. Women's Chorale meets daily and members are required to perform at four concerts per year as well as the IHSMA Large Group Contest. No audition is necessary for participation.
DODGER MEN'S CHORUS
DMC is open to male students in grades 9 - 12. This ensemble meets daily and is involved in four concerts per year, as well as the state large group music festival. No audition is necessary for participation. This is a graded class.
Vox is the advanced women's choir, and one of two auditioned choirs at FDSH. The choir ranges in size from 35-50 students in grades 10-12. Students in Vox Femina perform at four concerts per year, IHSMA Large Group Festival, and one regional honor choir festival.
THE ACAPELLA CHOIR
The A Cappella Choir is the premier vocal ensemble offered in the choir department at FDSH. Students must audition in the spring of the previous school year, and demonstrate a high level of ability to sing without accompaniment and read music. This ensemble is involved in four concerts per year, as well as the state large group music festival. In addition to their concert performances, A Cappella Choir also appears annually in regional concert choir competitions and completes a bi-annual tour. This is a graded class.
